    Enter: Rony the tourist.

I had a late event last night which got me home at 11, so to make up for lost time with Bu, we stayed up and watched a movie - House of Wax. I was falling asleep through the first half hour, then when things got gory, I couldn't help but watch. It's a dumb movie. Formula. Predictable. And what's with the gratuitous strip scene of Paris? Useless.

Anyhoo, we woke up at 11 o'clock today. This time, i cooked lunch (nothing fancy, bacon and hash browns). Then what to do? What to do? We decided to be tourists and explore Tsim Sha Tsui. We took out a tour guide book and chose what we had to see there. We were out of the house at 230, yeah a little late, and went straight to the Space Museum. We watched a science film in this dome with a sky screen. Thought it would be fascinating. (take note, "thought.") It was about the human body. The screen was larger than life above us and some of the images were amusing. But we almost fell asleep. 43 minutes later, we went through the museum proper and decided where we would be going next. Hmmm...

Avenue of the Stars was next. It's this water side pathway with Stars dedicated to certain Hong Kong stars. We walked around trying to find at least one star we knew. After a number of Chuns, Fungs, and Mulans, we finally found Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yeoh. And the view was fantastic. Wow...

The weather was perfect. It's one of those strolls that I'll remember for the rest of my life. Though i've been living here for several months, i've kept my sight seeing to only with friends. And I saved coming to this Avenue of Stars for Bu. Wanted to experience it with him. Glad I waited.

A chinese dinner later, we returned to the Avenue at 8 to watch some light show which involved all the buildings across the water. It's amazing how well lit the city is. Even more amazing how they'd spend money and time coming up with something like that.

After the light show, we decided to head back home. A journey which involved a ferry ride to Central (across the water) and then another ferry to Discovery Bay. We have G! and the mrs. coming over for lunch tomorrow so we grocery shopped first. Andrei's gonna cook! Our first home meal invite. How exciting.

Andrei's first week is up. It's been a wonderful week. Living in together. As he said, it's like a sample of our future. Wonderful. It's been really comforting having him (and not the Simpsons) to look forward to at the end of the day. Last night, when I had to work late, it was such a good feeling having him there waiting for me. *sigh* We've got one more week of exciting memories to create. Bea's coming! Chari and Abi are coming! Ocean Park on Monday! Fun...

Oh, and he is SO taking home the 28 Days Later and House of Wax vcds... ugh.

    The romantic weekend continues...

Yesterday we checked into the Disneyland Hotel, a journey which began with a Disneyland MTR ride. He didn't want me to take pictures at first, but what else do you do? We arrived at Sunny Bay Station, which is ten minutes from my place, and boarded the Disneyland MTR which brought us to the magical Disneyland MTR station. A quick walk to the Disneyland Bus terminal which brought us straight to the Disneyland Hotel (Do not pass GO! Do not collect 200)...

    Very Harry Potter...
    The magical bus!
... we checked into our Fantasia suite (seaview room with JACUZZI!) We didn't stay long though, we wanted to explore! And explore we did (check out the photos). Everything from the garden maze outside, to the rocks by the ocean, and Cinderella's staircase. Sights I was already too familiar with, but being there with Andrei made it feel like, um... a... dare I say it? Made it feel like a whole new world *dodging tomatoes*

    Somewhere in time...
    By the sea, Mr. Todd
    Andrei with rocks...
    Next to Cinderella's chandelier
We even checked out the Victorian Spa (no photos allowed *gloom*) where we sauna-fied, steamroom-ified and jacuzzi-fied (we love jacuzzis...) We almost went swimming in the indoor pool, which was too cold, ergo "almost." What's the point of a cold indoor pool? Oh well...

We capped the evening with an outdoor dinner at the Hollywood Hotel next door. The breeze is so cold nowadays. We were trying to keep it romantic, but I was freezing out there... Ooh, grilled BBQ stuff. He had lamb. I had salmon. Yum! Tiramisu for dessert...

    hidden mickey?

We spent the rest of the evening finishing 28 Days Later (how romantic...I miss Sandra Bullock) and finally finishing what we only watch together, that delightful little vice called Desperate Housewives- Season 1. What an incredibly wonderful series... "Human being are designed for many things. Lonliness isn't one of them" *ouch* So glad that I love Andrei and Andrei loves me... (right Geegee?) he he

Andrei's funny. He passed by me blogging and said, "Won't people get tired reading about us?" I figured, um, what else would they be coming to my page to read about? ME! And this is my life. Unless of course some of you were hoping to read about economics and current events, then I'm sorry to disappoint you. For the next two weeks, it's all Dairy products! (...cheese... if you didn't get my joke... *silent room*... never mind *sulk*)

Oh, and today we went to the park.

    to be continued...

Day 2... actually Day 1, since he arrived at 5 pm yesterday. Woke up today to Andrei not beside me, but in the kitchen cooking breakfast. *sigh* First time since moving here months ago that I've had breakfast on the dining table!!!! Scrambled eggs, bacon, samosas (left over from dinner), and rice. Yummy! We decided to just hang out today. Nothing tourist-y, just hanging out at home... which means we went back to sleep by 2 pm. 4 pm, we woke up and started an early dinner as we had made new plans to go out later and buy a new DVD player in Tsing Yi... Andrei cooking! Nothing quite like the sound and smell of real food in my kitchen...

    Pastaaaaaaaaaaahhh!
Then we were off to Tsing Yi. I bought my DVD player then since it was only 9 pm and we were pretty rested, we went to the night market in MongKok. Didn't realize just how hustle bustle that place was! It felt like just like downtown...
one short day in the emerald city...
There's a line painted on some walls of the IFC mall that goes, "A budget tells you what you can't afford, but doesn't keep you from buying it." Or something like that... And that was us. And overbudget is where we went (then again, we didn't have a big budget for day 1). We bought shoes, shirts, and sunglasses...
    Mong Kok!
1030 pm, we decided to take a break at Starbucks. More than that, we had a mini-pictorial... haha... you like?
    Cute!
We made it back home by 11:45 and we're gonna attempt to watch a horror flick called 28 Days Later (which I thought was the sequel to Sandra Bullock's 28 Days... apparently not). Tomorrow, he and I check into the Disneyland Hotel for a day of hotel-ing, then go to the park on Monday to experience the magic! I'm excited to show him around. He'll finally get to see the shows I've been busy maintaining and meet the people I work with. It's great. TWO WEEKS! Lots to do! I'm so gonna gain weight...
I really love having Bu here. Really.

It take a grain of love
    To make a mighty tree
    Even the smallest voice
    Can make a harmony
    Like a drop water
    Keep that river high
There are miracles for you and I
    Like a blade of corn
    Like a honey bee
    Like a waterfall
    All a part of me
    Like the color purple
    Where do it come from?
    Now my eyes are opened
    Look what God has done

I appreciate the lyrics... though I'm reconsidering keeping it as it has freaked some people out. Or maybe I should choose a song with an instrumental intro, as opposed to a voice coming in blind "Dear God..." Not so much what she's saying that's freaky, but if you don't expect it... AAAAAAAAAH! right? Thanks for voicing out your comments... and for those who just naturally hear things, enjoy!

I bought the VCD today. I'm inspired to find out what "The Color Purple" means... I used to love analyzing literature in high school. Then I stopped reading and continued analyzing musical theater (...now why does he choose to use the word clowns? And why send?) Now that Purple is a musical, time to understand it...

I realized something the other day... I'm in a corporate setting now. Have been for five months. It's just starting to sink in. I'm understanding The Apprentice more now. Understanding Rachel Greene working in Ralph Lauren. Understanding Clark Kent at the Daily Planet. No excuses. Move heaven and earth. Get it done.... It's new to me. Life coach?

    Josh dahling! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!

By this time tomorrow night, the most precious man in my life will be standing on my balcony smoking... And I will be the color HAPPY!

Last night, I was a kid again watching the Australian touring cast of The Sound of Music. This musical, like The King and I, is a musical I knew just as a movie version. I'd never seen a staging of it, which I knew would be a bit different. Sweet. No, it was wonderful. Great set (may budget sila!) Well blended orchestra (lady conductor!) The kids were wonderful. Maria was wonderful (except for one underwhelming number of hers - the opening song!!! No one clapped. How depressing. But past that, she was charming and wonderful for the rest of the show, and yes, by "how do you hold a moonbeam in your hand?" the audience was warm.) I got teary eyed. I got sad. I got excited. I hummed along. I was amused by the differences to the movie. For those who don't know (though I'm sure my theater pals know this na)...

    1. My Favorite Things is sung not in Maria's bedroom with the kids, but in the abbey with Maria and the Reverend Mother.

    2. The Lonely Goatherd is the song sung in Maria's bedroom that stormy night.

    3. There is not as much a rivalry between the Baroness and Maria. In the movie, I do believe the Baroness realizes that the Captain is in love with Maria and thus lets him go. On stage, she breaks it off because of the difference in ideals.

    4. Rolf does not turn against the Von Trapps in the end, he catches them but decides not to tell the lieutenant.

Funny, we also realized that Act 2 is almost ALL REPRISES! It's like Rodgers got lazy and had Hammerstein just rewrite new lyrics for all the act one songs... ha ha.

The movie is still better though. I'm thinking of going out and buying it sometime this week.... oh wait, I just spent a thousand dollars on DVDs yesterday. But how could I resist? ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT Season 2! Broadway's Lost Treasures part 3! (which includes a scene from the 1999 Tony Awards in which Kristin Chenoweth, who won the Tony that year, sings "My New Philosophy". Pre-Glinda! She's AMAZING! hehe) Plus this Broadway writers collection in which composers sing their own material! I'm inspired to write again... hmmm... The hills are alive, with the sound myoooseeek... note to self: must look for season 2 of Nip/Tuck.

Oh, then after the show, Tom, Bobby and I went to a gay bar. Rice. Kinda cool. Crowded. But relaxing. Cute shirtless bartenders. But no one worth looking at in front of the bar really. Was glad to be hooked to someone. Like Manila, this bar thing really isn't my scene. Though it's nice to go there for a drink on the occasion. My first taste of Hong Kong gay life... oh wait... i work in entertainment... never mind.

Are we halfway through October already? wow...

    back to the Bluth family...

P.S. I added a song to my page. Trying it out (thanks Johann). It's The Color Purple by original Ti moune La Chanze from the musical of the same name. New on Broadway. Beautiful lyrics... think I should keep it? Comments...

Filed my vacation leave today. Approved. Not my original plan, but this works GREAT too... 23rd monthniv (the last before the big 2 year anniversary) ... Jennie's wedding (YEAH!) ... Angel's birthday... Then my whole family's flying up for Christmas and New Years. I can't wait... December's gonna be great...

If all goes as planned, bu will be here in just over a week. I'm so excited to play house for two weeks! Macau, Disneyland, Ocean park Halloween, Mandarin spa... even a simple home cooked dinner, finishing season one of Desperate Housewives, or standing on our balcony overlooking Discovery Bay... oh the sweet memories. Can't wait! Life's good...

    My top 25 list

I just found this interesting playlist on my iTunes called my Top 25 Most Played List. Didn't realize someone was keeping count. And now reading it, I'm quite amused.

Inside Your Heaven by Carrie Underwood. I do love that song. I find the lyrics so soothing... I wanna be inside your heaven, take me to the place you cry from when the storm blows your way. I'm in love with that imagery. And to think, I downloaded both versions (because a certain friend said Bo's was better... I disagree, though I do like Bo's.)

Three songs from Little Women... Hmmm... Astonishing. I find that song very empowering. The melody just soars and who can't relate to those lyrics? "I'll stand and start a riot! Be anything but quiet! Christopher Columbus, I'll be astonishing!" And who doesn't love hearing Sutton belt that third to the last note like her life depended on it. Here Alone and Some Things Are Meant To Be. I love depressing story songs (except "why can't he love me?" songs, cause I'm so not in that place right now). The mother writes her husband far away, "Do you know how much I miss you at this hour of the day?" or Beth's pre-death scene with her closest sister Joe, "Some things will never die - the promise of who you are, the memories when I am far from you... All my life I've lived for loving you *dramatic pause* let me go now..." *tears*

Also a depressing song, but not so depressing... or maybe it is, is Wait For the Way. Not a very popular song, I heard it underscore the scene after Jack comes out to Joey on Dawson's Creek (I will tolerate no eyes rolling during my airtime...). "Each small step of my life, there's a loneliness I've known. I take the road that's right even if I'm left alone. But I know that heaven holds amazing grace when you trust what you feel inside..." A lot of people can relate to it I think. I know I can.

Let's see, what else is up there... Three songs from "Man Of No Importance". Streets of Dublin, the drive of this song just ROCKS! Guitar chords and soaring notes. Plus the Dublin accent makes it all the sweeter "On the streets o' dooblin." Sweet. Art, big chorus number where a bunch of people are putting a show together, but with their own personal flair, uh yeah... And Princess, the simple ballad by the female lead, convincing herself that she is worth playing the princess role in the play.

Guess I like Fantasia to have two songs of hers up there, I Believe and Truth Is. Bless the Broken Road is thanks to Carrie singing it at the finals of American Idol. It's become a song both Andrei and I like to quote... "This much I know is true, that God blessed the broken road that led me straight to you." One of them, everything happens for a reason songs.

Damaged by TLC is just a great song, I don't really relate to it cause I don't have as much baggage as the song describes (neither did Andrei which is why we were a perfect match... awww...*dodging tomatoes*) That song has a cool guitar intro. And I love a song with great guitar intros... just like Just A Little While of Janet.

Car Wash and Tilt Ya Head Back, I always love a good walking down the street song. Feel good songs where one can imagine being able to adlib like Christina (too gay?)...

Jammin Jungle is really just a fun song from Disney. Fun melody. Fun lyrics. Always gets me dancing... really! If you come to the park and catch that show, you'll know what I mean. FUN!

You gotta have a bit of Mariah, and I think Whenever You Call is one of her best songs. The version I have on Elphie is the duet. The last line of the bridge goes straight into the first line of the chorus, without a breath, and it's just... wonderful! And I love the lyrics. Whenever You Call... it's appropriate I believe for the person I think about when it plays. hihi.

Do I like songs that end in "I"? The Wizard and I and Better Than I. The former is from Wicked, and I like it cause of the high notes (majority of the songs on my list have high notes). The latter is from a CD a friend gave me called Grateful. It inspired me a lot when I was depressed about moving here those first couple weeks. "You know better than I, you know the way, I let go the need to know why, I'll take what answers you supply. You know better than I". How reassuring... plus he modulates and hits a high note. What more could you ask for? Find Your Grail, though meant to be funny, is also quite inspiring. And she adlibs all over the place. This woman named Sarah Ramirez, who from ONE LINE at A Class Act's stage clip from the Tony Awards, I was a fan. ONE LINE! It's great to hear her singing much more in this show.

Now We Vow from Mr. Noah's Big Boat. I wrote the song. Gary Valenciano and Bituin Escalante. Theater friends. Bito belts an E. Nuff said.

How Wonderful We Are is by Lea Salonga and Luther Vandross. I remember hearing it on an album AGES ago, but it was the only song on the album I liked. So I'd go to Tower Records just listen to it, but didn't buy it. So when I found it on iTunes, 99 cents later, it's a favorite...

Gosh this list is long and I'm sure you're bored. Go ahead, click on someone else's blog right now, I'll allow it... Stars and The Moon by Audra McDonald is so much sweeter than the original soundtrack version. Or maybe not sweeter, but the attack is amusing. You really hear her excitement when she starts to list all the material things that the man was gonna give her... And the regret in that last line, "I'll never have the moon..." Ouch.

Delta Dawn by Better Midler has always been one of my favorite songs. Simple. Repetitive. Depressing. But it's Bette... circa 1977 I think. Bette is Bette. Gay is gay.

*whew* that's the last time I write about my playlist...Now I'm sleepy.

Ooh, thanks for complimenting my niece Chloe. Isn't she just preciousness personified... *sigh*

In a couple hours, it'll be Chari's Birthday...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEET CHARI-ty! I'm missing you much here! We'll celebrate in Macau! MWAHAHA! love you...

    *hug*

Showtime! Last night was the night. I spent the whole day Friday editing the music in a studio far from Disney. Then Saturday morning, there was a last minute edit which had me racing there again super early to make it back by lunch, with plenty of time to spare before the cast was called at 230. Rehearsals and show...

First, check out the entrance to the ballroom (that's me and our lady choreographer Jen)! It was A Night of Miracles, an evening benefit for the British Columbia's Children's Hospital. Generous rich folk pulling their resources in to make life better for thousands of kids.

Everyone was dressed to the nines, and with table setting like this, and a gorgeous castle stage... I was starving cause I forgot to think to eat before the event. Showtime wasn't till like 930 and there's nothing more painful than an empty stomach, watching food go by. Something, as a wedding pianist, I've seen many times (Cathy, if you read this blog, memories flood in, of us backstage of New World Hotel, watching the wedding lauriat food pass by while we ate our staff meal of flavourless chicken and rice!)

The ones who put the show together, musical director me, Jen the choreographer and Bobby & Tom, the two directors. They're a fun, brilliant bunch.

    That's entertainment...

The singers and I (check out Miss Venezuela on my right)...

    Don't I look good?

    Nothing quite like it...

    It's a small world..

And me at the end of the day, sans coat and tie...heading home on the Disneyland MTR... just me, glad that I have the next two days off to recover...

    *sigh*

It was tiring, it was stressful, but it felt GOOD going home that night. It felt like the official start of my job (this was the first show this creative team put together). I'm excited to see what other shows lie ahead. The day I finally get to arrange a Disney medley (yes, with a counterpoint, a big bang, and a soft part - to those who know me well). The day I finally get to compose a song (got no engine, got no oar...) Slowly but surely.

Now, what to do the rest of the day. Funny. I woke up early today even if I slept late last night. My body's adjusted to the time here. Grrr... I'm in the mood for Filipino food. Hmmm...
BU! COME HERE AND COOK ME SOMETHING!

    Angel's back in Manila.

    Joy's still in the States.

And I'm not just tired really.

This is for my Coro Animo friends who always had the right answer to "hey guys, where we off to?"

Well folks, everytime I pass by this store here in Discovery Bay, I think of you guys!

Hmmm... Spent today reading old blog entries and listening to Nsync's No Strings Attached Album (don't ask why... Last week, I even uploaded Britney's Oops I Did It Again into my minipod... nothing gayer than lip synching "She's so lucky, she's a star but she cry cry cries in her lonely heart..." on the bus to work!) Anyway, I went through a major Nsync phase. I still do like their songs. I also remember one time how some Coro guys came over to my house a couple years ago and we tried singing the harmony of Bye Bye Bye. It sounded beautifully choral... and it was too funny, you can only imagine. I miss you guys, hope to see you all on my next visit - NOVEMBER. Though i'll totally miss Tennister! Aww... Here's to the bookshop! Oh and belated Happy Birthday to Francis! Face feuls did you say?

And it looks like Chari and Abi will be in the area early November. Just in time to catch Andrei and I in Macau and Quidam! Fingers crossed that the timing all works out... Still working up a nice schedule of things to do when Andrei's here. It's down to three spas - Hyatt's Plateau or Peninsula Spa or the new one I've been dying to try since Bobby tried it, Mandarin Spa. Can't wait... what do you guys think? Based on the websites...

Ooh, my sister was with Joy in the States for just over a week. They had fun. Check them out here Hi Joy, I'll write more, promise!

Barbra released her new album last week. And the new Rent movie soundtrack is out. I listened to some of the clips online. Some tempos are faster or slower. Some of them have fancy-fied their adlibs, showing how much they've developed since Rent came out years ago. I heard the I'll Cover You reprise. I think his adlibs are bit too long now. I'll probably stay a purist and keep my Broadway soundtrack... Still I'm excited to see the movie.

Ooh, and Andrei posted some pics from my Manila trip too. In just a few hours, 21...

*singing*...so if you want it take my heart, no strings attached...

So I picked out a gay movie I saw at HMV the other week. (that place is hazardous to one's financial health! Really, Desperate Housewives season 1 is out... 500 dollars! Damn...)

Anyway, I loved the movie. It's sweet. Nothing made me cry, but it did make me laugh out loud and do a couple "awww.."s. In a nutshell, the story is about a mother's acceptance of her gay son and the son's coming to terms with coming out to his family (you can see from the picture the possible cultural obstacles). It's hilarious and the very strong willed mother Nuru, has some of the funniest lines...

    Alim, the son, in a panic, introduces his boyfriend's sister as his own girlfriend. Nuru subtly makes it clear that she is not happy that his "girlfriend" is not Pakistani but British (the story takes place in London where Alim lives and Toronto, where his family lives). Her reply;

NURU: "It was very nice meeting you both. I hope we meet again one day... when there isn't a knife plunged into my heart."

Giles, Alim's British boyfriend, attempts to make friends with Nuru, who at this point is still very angry at the idea of Alim having a British girlfriend.

GILES: "I'd really like it if we could be friends"
NURU: "I have my friends, thank you, all the positions have been filled. If there's a vacancy in the near future, i'll be sure to get in touch. Thank you very much for applying"

Giles accidently eats the eggs that Nuru prepared for Alim.

GILES: "I'm sorry, i just presumed the eggs were for everybody.
NURU: "you people always do. Eggs, India, Africa... the middle east."

Nuru catches her nephew hitting on her son.

NEPHEW: "I'm not... I have a fiance, remember?"
NURU: "Your mother has a baby grand piano, she can't play a note either..."

And lastly, Nuru tries to tell her son that she's not as ignorant as he thinks...

NURU: "I'm not completely backwards. I know about men with men. I subscribe to Reader's Digest."

If it doesn't sound that funny, I guess you had to be there... it was, it is! hehehe

My nose has been runny all day! I wanna breathe again!....

    Looksie here...

I'm okay na. Was all stressed out last week, but it all got sorted out. Where there's a will, there's a gay... este, there's a way. Today, I went into the studio and fixed everything! *calm waters* That's that. SO glad I got it done, I booked myself for a massage at 6 pm. It wasn't the Mandarin Spa, and I have a feeling my back is bruised, but all's good. Passed by World Wide Center, where all the Filipino stuff is, and bought beefsteak tagalog and adobo for dinner. Today's a holiday here in Hong Kong, so there were gonna be fireworks at 8 pm. SO, I went to the second floor of the Discovery Bay pier in Central and waited. A hundred million people around me. And waited. And waited. Standing. Heat. And waited. 9 pm rolls along, I say forget it. I decide to take the ferry home, so I go to the FIRST floor of the pier only to find that because of the fireworks, the next ship leaves at ten! NOOOOO! I run towards the nearby MTR and get home in half an hour. Zeesh. My feet hurt again... I bought new socks at Marks and Spencer. Oooh, and found these nice shoes at Geox (something my good friend Cel told me about) but for HK$1200... maybe, maybe. I've been trying to keep my spending down so i can splurge when Andrei gets here. Nearer and nearer...

I've got a headache, will blog more tomorrow.

Thanks to anyone who asked what was wrong. It's all good. No worries. (dare I say it?... okay) Hakuna Matata (ergo, spitting elephant up there...)

ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz I've the next two days off... yeah...
