Stop the clock - Take time outIn exactly two weeks, I hit the big 3-0 on a Friday the 13th. So though it seems to be racing towards me, I also know I'm totally comfortable with that. I've been lucky. Around 8 years ago, I closed my accounting books and jammed toward a new, though not unfamiliar, direction. Around 4 years ago, I landed my first musical direction job and knew I wanted to be an MD. Around 2 years ago, I became one full time. Why can't you stay 29 hell, you still feel like you're 22 I've always felt young. I believe it's essential to enjoying music and life. I mean I work in an amusement park and have a 23 year old boyfriend, I'm forever young in that sense. Who wants to grow old and not be able to enjoy the simple pleasure of enjoying a cupcake with friends. Friends are getting fatter, hairs on you head are getting thinner No comment... Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, which way to Never Never Land? How'd he know? Into my hands now, the ball has passed I want the spoils, but not too fast The world is calling, it's now or Neverland Why can't I stay a child forever and... 30/90, 30/90, 30/90, 30/90, 30/90, 30/30/90 What can I do? I've been very, very lucky. Right place, right time. Huge dents in the past have ironed themselves into manageable crumples. Worked with fascinating, amazing, and incredible. I've learned how to drive happiness. Mean something to someone. Be a friend's worth in "worth the trouble". Played Seasons of Love five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred times. And still there's so much to do, songs to write, friends to meet, people to delete, pounds to lose, situations to accept, issues to dissolve, places to see on a clear day... But for now, I'm right on time. *tick tock* rhapsody [

So after a marathon of Desperate Wives season 2 episodes (I've one more disc to finish off the set!) I've realized I'm much more Bree than anybody else in this show. For me, her story in this second season is the most interesting and the most desperate. This season isn't as exciting as the first, but I still love the way it all sums up at the end of every episode. The one I just saw was called "Wasn't Meant To Happen" and here's how it ended...Mary Alice: "There is a prayer intended to give strength to people faced with circumstances they don't want to accept. The power of the prayer comes from it's insight into human nature." Bree: "We ask God to grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change." Mary Alice: "Because so many of us rage against the hand that life has dealt us." Bree: "The courage to change the things we can." Mary Alice: "Because so many of us are cowardly. And afraid to stand up for what is right." Bree: "And the wisdom to know the difference." Mary Alice: "Because so many of us give into despair. When faced with an impossible choice. The good news for those who utter these words is that God will hear you and answer your prayer. The bad news is that sometimes... the answer is no." rhapsody [

Anecdote... so while my friends were watching the fireworks last week, having seen it a million times, I was busy taking shots of them taking shots of the fireworks. Random shots like this... Now, knowing that the last beat of the music is accompanied by a venom blast of dazzling light, I prepared my camera for the big moment hoping to get a dramatic color and fire shot... This is what came out... It could use a caption I think... "E.T. goes home..." rhapsody [

So, there are voting people not taking American Idol seriously... SERIOUSLY!!?!?! Why is he still in the game? It's bad enough he'll be on the tour (not that I'm gonna see it) and the album (not that I've ever bought one) but still. Send the talentless teenager home. He's not even funny, amusing. He's BAD!! He totally massacred Ain't No Mountain High Enough (apparently it ain't not high enough) and all the songs before. SERIOUSLY... It's bad enough Taylor Hicks is having trouble selling his album, America should vote for an Idol whose album they're seriously gonna buy... Disaster.I can taste the weekend coming up... tastes like sleep. rhapsody [

Alone again, naturally. Joy and Marvin left at 2 pm for the States today. Cla and Miko left yesterday. Ralph left Sunday. And Francis, Jet, Nadia, Wilma and Anton left Saturday. So, throw in work on top of all that, it's been a busy couple of days. Of course, I brought the friends into the park... group 1 on Friday, group 2 on Sunday. And I was both host and guest...Took them to see Festival of the Lion King, near Tarzan's treehouse There was Philharmagic, the awesome 4D show... They got to see our gorgeous Mickey fountain by day... And by night... These are friends from different times in my life. Francis and company I've known since college from the days of my life filed under "DLSU Chorale". Friday night, we spent a good couple hours reminiscing in Hemingway's by the Dbay beach. Cool air blowing. Warm coffee flowing. It was incredibly calming. Ah the memories. Cla is Joy's batchmate from ISM and is the cousin of one of my closest friends in life, Tom. I haven't seen her for a while cause she moved to the States sometime ago but then moved to Manila, probably shortly before I left. Now we've reconnected and what a thrill to show her and cute boyfriend Miko around. Sunday afternoon, I also got to see Ralph who was flying through Hong Kong to surprise his friends in Manila. So with a 14 hour layover in HK, we met up in the afternoon for pizza, fruit juice gossip, HMV, and Clinique. Then yesterday, for Joy's last night, I treated them to Mexican food down in the plaza. Today, I helped Gerwin take back the bed I had to borrow for my friends. A catch-up chat with him and wife Charlie, I was back in my apartment. I should be sleeping, LONG week this week, with LONG days. Said I'd be asleep by midnight... Let's see. Andrei's receiving a Dean's award for theater tomorrow. CONGRATS BU!!

It's my last night to myself for the next week. Tomorrow, my sister Joy, her boyfriend Marvin, Francis, Jet, and Nadia all fly in. Followed by Wilma and Anton on Thursday. So after going to a dental appointment at 5:30 pm (after 3 years... no new cavities!) I headed to the Dbay plaza, did some groceries, and rented out 2 DVD's. One was "Another Gay Movie," which is an American Pie spoof with a gay coat of paint, and disc 2 of Desperate Housewives, season 2. It's 11 pm and I don't think I'm gonna finish 4 more 40 minute episodes before the night is over. But who knows. I'm a sucker for narrated drama-dies. Grey's Anatomy. Scrubs. Ally McBeal. Desperate Housewives. I love that moment in the end that sums up the entire episode in one theme. Sins. Lies. Love. Children. Or it can get really creative. I just finished the episode called "Color and Light". The insight? Cameras. *sigh*Found this clip, another Regine one. I don't know what's more hypnotic, the melody or the voice... Those lyrics just slice through the heart like butter. *sigh* Wonder if she'll still be in the industry the day I decide to return to Manila. Hope so. Also on the topic of incredible voices, how cool is this?
And wish me luck folks, I'm housing 6 people here the next couple days. haha... rhapsody [

So Cebu Pacific is on this crazy 1 peso plus tax flight promo. From March 2-8, you buy tickets for June to December 15 at ridiculously low rates. I'm tempted to book a flight home every month for the next 6 months. It's THAT cheap. Okay, maybe not every month. I still do end up spending more that way... hmm... maybe Cebu. As I'm writing this, my sister is texting me to book flights, worry about actual schedule later. Haha... I could. Good thing I still have that free ticket I got last week. I'll save that for my Christmas-Manila vacation in December.Back to more Manila, which seems like ages ago already so I'll fast forward. Warning, potentially boring stream of consciousness... Monday: checked out of Discovery Suites, lunch with Chari in Shang, headed to Ateneo with Chari at 4 pm, attended HSM rehearsals, then while Andrei went home to study for finals, I went to makati with Chari to meet up with Abi and Topper. Tuesday: dropped by Avenue Q auditions. It felt good to be back in that rehearsal hall after 2 years and see the Atlantis team again. I hung out till Topper got there, played for his funny audition, then we headed to Greenbelt to meet up with more theater folk. Lunch at Cafe Bola, coffee at Coffee Bean, headed to Rep to kill time watching Gay Birds rehearsals, didn't happen, met up with Coro Animo folk for dinner at Bizu. Headed home. Wednesday: Lunch with Cathy in Serendra, Paolo joined us, saw his movie QWERTY (which you all must see, watch it, comment, now na) Paolo left, then Cathy and I moved to Sonya's cupcakes where Menchu and Michael joined us for some good ol' theater chat. Once again, felt good to still be in the loop. Would've met up with Jennie (Hi Jen!! Catchya next time) but her brother fell ill, hope he's okay. Dinner was also in Serendra (long day) with Josh, Clarisse, Chesa, and Lana. Followed by Dreamgirls at Josh's apartment! Standing ovation. Closed the evening by picking up Andrei at SM megamall at 3 am (he was there for the overnight setup, ah the busy life of an assistant director/production manager) Thursday: Spent the whole day just hanging out a Megamall watching the stage adjustment for High School Musical. Got to be there when the Bluerep gang presented Andrei the birthday phone EVERYBODY chipped in for. Stunned. I disappeared from 2-4 to go to Corinthian to visit an old friend, Althea. My HS-English-teacher-turned-good-friend who just 3 weeks ago, adopted a kid of mixed descent. Cutie. Back to megamall where things ended at 10 pm. Andrei had to stay behind pa, so after dinner with Kyla, Nicholas, and Altair, I capped the evening with coffee in Makati with Topper. Friday: Joy arrived. Angel and I head out to go pick her and boyfriend Marvin from the airport. We go straight to Discovery Suites where they'd be staying. The evening is dedicated to, what else, High School Musical. The team, Me, Joy, Marvin, Angel, Luis, Mirzi, Josh, and of course Chloe... who fell in love with Troy. Funny Chloe comments: Before the show started, knowing we were going to watch her favorite movie, asked "Where's the TV?" And at the end of the show, turns to her mom and says "the shows too long." Haha... She enjoyed it though, trust me. Highlight for her was meeting Troy (a.k.a Mako Alonso) after the show and getting a picture with him. Now she goes around telling people how she met him and he said "hello, hello"... awwww. Capped the evening with friends and dinner in Chicken Bacolod over at Metrowalk. Chari and Abi left and I treated whoever stayed to drinks. This was practically my last night out cause I had planned to spend all of Saturday with my family. Saturday: Mall of Asia day. It would be the first weekend since Christmas 2005 that the whole Fortich family would be complete. A good lunch at Bangus, shopping, shopping, dinner at Sakura, and everyone went home (I had an 8 am flight the next day, so I thought...) Unplanned, I capped the night with Josh, Katrina, Andrei, and Geegee over at Podium. Then home with Andrei, who I've barely spent anytime with on this trip. *sigh* Sunday: Read I Got Rhythm. Pictures: These are the reasons I fly home. Here's one more.
