It's 5 am. I just got back from the dry run of tonight's big New Year's Eve bash at Hong Kong Disneyland. This is my third new year's eve here. The first was really cool cause my whole family was in town... except I didn't dare bring them into the park that night, when it's that full and that cold. So, they celebrated on their own and I called them after the clock hit midnight. Last year, I was loving the big band and Anna Fegi playing the castle stage. Then having Mickey conduct that band into the new year with Luck Be A Lady Tonight...This year, it's CLUB DISNEY. The whole park is a huge disco and it's gonna rock. I'm sure it's gonna be packed and then it'll really feel like the start of a new year... Cause it hasn't. I usually feel really up and up days before new year's. I just don't feel "it" yet and I've only got 19 hours to go. So my year in a blur. 3 year anniversary, Chinese New Year, High School Musical in Manila, met Michelle Kwan, friends came to visit, turned 30, went to Koh Samui, went to Tokyo (twice), Pirates took over Adventureland, Chloe and Cole came to visit, stayed at Shangrila Cebu, dinner with Ryan Cayabyab, Waterworks parade, Andrei left, Topper left, Halloween Tonight played a Disney street, Joy came home, Cole turned 1, macbook, tv, Christmas, New Year's Eve rehearsal, home at 5... This isn't my favorite year. I've said that before. I mean, when I turned 30, things were GREAT. I was set in so many directions. Happy. I thought everything was in place and I was set. Then bloody hell, madness. But I'm a glass half full kind of guy. Silver lining. Accentuate the positive. And though I had to look hard, I sort of found it. What was hard to see was that things were JUST great. I can't settle for that. Not yet. Too young. Things can still get better. The shift in universe might be a little jarring, but it has its reasons and a new year is the perfect setting to stop and enjoy the change. I know my worth a bit more, as well as my strength capacity. My family was complete for Christmas. I mean, if I didn't embrace the changes, I'd still be typing with my PC this morning. This was transition year. The year in between great and better. Where change steps in and tests this 30 year old heart and soul. The thought, "well if that didn't happen, this wouldn't have happened." I can do better than that. That's the promise of a new year. Or just the thoughts of deliriously sleepy man... rhapsody [

Christmas. While I'm glad to be in Manila to be able to celebrate the day with my family and my sister's family, I can't help but imagine being in Hong Kong these next couple days. I would've hosted Noche Buena in my apartment according to Shiela cause I have the oven that never gets used. I would've gone out of my way to buy Christmas decorations to give my pad an Ayala mall feel. Scented pine air freshener would've been battling with the smell of food swirling from the kitchen. The stereo would've been on with carefully selected Yuletide music, or maybe Alvin and the Chipmunks "all I want for Christmas is my two front teeth..." Later on, I could've taken out the keyboard and jammed a couple Christmas tunes with everybody... "let's sing merry christmas and a happy holi.." I would've been surrounded by the friends I count on through out the year to keep me sane and grounded. Ahhh... I'll be there in spirit. And it's wonderful here, don't get me wrong. With Avenue Q tonight, a Coro lunch tomorrow, Christmas eve dinner with my immediate family. Then Christmas day, we all check into Linden Suites for a full family dinner and overnight with Angel's family too. Tradition. Then back to HK on Wednesday, barely a sneeze after the day to prepare for New Year's Eve... Had a really good day yesterday. Got my creative juices flowing again. On the piano. Nice. Also did something I should've done ages ago. Decided. And it was good. Merry Christmas almost... rhapsody [

I could never bring myself to buy the soundtrack or watch the show when I was in New York. But for some reason, this trailer makes me really excited to watch. Is it Pierce? Colin? It might very well be because of Meryll... Damn! This lady can do anything... can't believe she's the witch in Prada. Won't be opening till July... then again, I haven't seen Hairspray and I can still look forward to Sweeney Todd. Lots too see, lots to see... rhapsody [

Realized I haven't updated this blog for a while now. I've been either extremely busy or on vacation... (is there really any other options in life?) Busy is all about work, New Year's Eve is just a couple weeks away, and just a couple weeks from that is Chinese New Year, then High School Musical... It's a truckload of hours in my studio but all good fun.As my last entry says, Manila was all about show watching. Which is as much a social call as it is an relaxing night in the theyaeetah... From the first weekend of show watching: Dogeaters in RCBC, Seussical in Trinoma, Into the Woods in Music Museum, and Fiddler on the Roof in Greenbelt. Good familiar music. Good familar friends. More Manila pictures in my next entry. I got back to Hong Kong last Saturday morning and had a wedding to attend in the afternoon. It was a beach wedding an hour away from Dbay by junk boat. And because there was no pier next to the area, we got off the junk and boarded a smaller boat which brought us to shore. But to keep our shoes and socks from getting wet... The men in the back actually offered to carry anyone off the boat so their shoes wouldn't get wet. The women took the offer... I was tempted... but I figured just like all the other men, I might as well get my feet wet. The setting was beautiful... Someday when it's me... rhapsody [

On my last two days of vacation and I'm feeling sick. It's been a great couple days though of watching show after show after show. Dogeaters last Friday, followed by Seussical, Into the Woods, Fiddler on the Roof and just last night, a friend's thesis production of The Last Five Years. Hoping to catch one last show this Friday. Then Saturday morning, it's back to Hong Kong just in time for the wedding of a close friend of mine. It's been a very, very good break. A lot of rest. A lot of friends. A lot of quality time with Chloe. A lot of chilling time spent at Starbucks wifi-ing with Audrey 3. Kinda cool, kinda cool. And I'll be going back to Hong Kong having just enough Manila to get me by for a while.
